About PathLight

PathLight’s mission is to support organisations to evolve and prosper in the changing landscape of governance (ESG), climate risk, sustainability, and risk management.

Changes in legislation, regulations, stakeholder requirements, our environment and society are driving an increasing need for organisations to take effective action in these areas.

PathLight has the knowledge and experience to provide advice and support throughout the process, from assessing current status, designing and implementing workstreams, to successful achievement of targets and on-going success.

Jon Kershaw - Founder

PathLight’s founder and principal consultant is Jon Kershaw.

Jon’s career has included roles in finance and accounting, risk management, governance, contracts, and compliance.

He has worked for both small and large entities in New Zealand across a number of sectors in leadership roles, including more than eight years in an executive role at an NZX/ASX listed technology company.

Recently Jon has:

  • led Climate-related Disclosures (CRD) project activities across all 4 CRD pillars for a retail bank through to their first mandatory disclosure, after first performing a gap analysis and creating an implementation action plan

  • worked with a listed technology company to implement their CRD action plan, leading initially to a voluntary climate disclosure and then through to their first mandatory disclosure

  • supported both the above entities as they undertook additional activities to support their second year of disclosures, including leading the workstream measuring the retail bank’s greenhouse gas emissions from lending and investing activities for the first time.

Jon is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

He has completed Sustainability and Climate Risk training with the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

Jon has experience across PathLight’s portfolio of services, but his special areas of interest are climate risk and sustainability, especially supporting organisations to:

  • respond to climate-related disclosure requirements in line with the standards issued by the External Reporting Board (XRB) in New Zealand

  • respond to relevant reporting frameworks in accordance with the standards issued by the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), covering sustainability reporting and climate-related reporting

  • make a positive difference on sustainability in line with the Sustainable Development Goals framework adopted by the UN Global Compact¹.

Jon’s interest in these areas is driven by his desire to be part of the solution on climate change and sustainability.

In December 2024 in his message for the New Year, UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted that the top 10 hottest years on record occurred in the past decade and stated that:

“This is climate breakdown — in real-time.  We must exit this road to ruin -— and we have no time to lose. In 2025, countries must put the world on a safer path by dramatically slashing emissions, and supporting the transition to a renewable future. It is essential — and it is possible.”

The time for action is now.

  1. the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by 2030.
